In March of 1997, Dan and Donna Flamion opened a Lawn and Garden Shoppe called The Pink Flamingo.  In October, Donna appeared on NBC's Today Show, toting a plastic pink flamingo in hopes of being recognized in the crowd. To her surprise, she was interviewed by Al Roker who took the flamingo and started squawking at the audience and camera. Almost immediately, calls came in from across the country asking for the pink lawn ornament. Due to this response, she knew she should get a website started right away. In 2000, the physical storefront was closed so Donna could focus more of her attention on the development of the website and her customers from around the world.

Why "The Pink Flamingo"? With a name like Flamion, husband Dan was the one who suggested the name for her new shop. Donna was a bit hesitant, wanting the name to be reflective of the quality outdoor accents she would carry, and not wanting to be mistaken for a cheesy night club or hotel. She was trying to let the name grow on her when an article appeared in "National Geographic" magazine about Don Featherstone creating the pink flamingo lawn ornament in 1957, which is the same year she was born! It was a sign, and, as they say, the rest is history. . .
